Recently Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) being a hot issue, again. Protests regarding their violoents tactics to achieve goals flaring in some cities. Like few days ago a protest by dayak tribesmen in Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan, who shut the door against FPI’s plan to open a local branch. Then, a similiar protest followed by about 300 poeple at jakarta’s hotel indonesia traffic circle, demanding the disbandment of FPI.
While in surakarta, central java, about 200 other pople from various background and some mass organization staged a rally declaring action of peace for FPI regarding some prorest demanding for the disbandment of the FPI voiced at other protests. And president coming to surakarta in an official visit was a coincidence.
However, Indonesia goverment particularly home affairs minister facing a dilemma, pressure for using authority to disband a mass organization arises in some cities. On the other hand the goverment has never disabnded any mass organizations, despite just last month, FPI an organization referred to, pelted rocks at the home minister office protest of alcohol’s sales law in jakarta and some gropus such a blatant manner. The home affairs minister said despite mounting calss for FPI’s disbandment, the ministry needed to follow procedures stipulated by law. But may be we would ask, how about the police? Do polices have authority on disbanding an mass organization? As uttered by Natioanl Police Chief general, said that police do not have the authority to disband any organization.
So, actually I don’t agree with a mass organization disbandment, but I believe in there’s such a strict prerequisites for forming a mass organozation, for example put some strict prohibitons to do violence, bigotry, denigrating other groups and commitment to human rights protection. Because as home affairs minister data showed that number of mass organizations at more then 60.000, excluding unrigestered groups. And it means, It was too easy for poeple to form a mass organization. And according to me some oragnaizations would related to each other because same of interests and aim, so when there’s an issue about a disbandment an mass organization would support a strong action in other mass organizations.
I think FPI’s vision and missions aren’t that bad, they want to do good things, they dream for peace but they bring it in a rough way, theirs perspective dont remind them to be respectful towards the religious customs, beliefs and sensitivities of others so that it tends to a discord. They should ask themselves if what they are doing will cause hurt to poeple and didn’t reflect their group’s identity, while others accused the mass organization of making Islam’s tenet look likes that crude. FPI and poeple free to propogate their beliefs but it shuold be done in a right way and in accordance with value and norms. Bhineka Tunggal ika, Unity in diversity. We couldn’t only hold in a point of our Pancasila (five principles) for example just hold first point; Belief in the one and only God but all of it.
